TBT: That One Time A Steeler Legend Was in WCW
Kevin Greene is a weird dude to begin with, but throwing in the fact that he is considered one of the best defensive ends in NFL history, combined with the fact that he faced some of the biggest legends in pro wrestling history between 1996 and 1998 just cements his wacky legacy.
Between those years, Greene had a feuds with wrestling royalty, including the likes of The Four Horsemen and the nWo, and even got to partner with Bill Goldberg in 1998 (which was the year he blew up). Fortunately for us a viewers, Greene and The Horsemen patched things up, and that angle provided us all with the match which you can find at the link below. At Slamboree 1997, Greene participated in a six-man tag match, partnering with Ric (WOOO!) Flair and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper to take on Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and Syxx (X-Pac) of the nWo.
Enjoy the match and try to wrap your mind around this: Greene was a pro football player in his prime, considered on of the best at what he did, and he is thrown into a wrestling angle with some of the biggest names in the history of a sport for which he has no formal training. If that's not interesting, I don't know what is. Can you imagine J.J. Watt in a similar position with The Rock and John Cena against The Shield? Greene was in a position which young wrestlers who were lower on the card would absolutely die to have, and he does a fine job, all things considered.
