The First "IT" Trailer is Up, and It Will Make You Develop Coulrophobia
Let me first start by saying that I am a huge Stephen King nerd, and when I heard that "IT" was being adapted again, I was pretty skeptical. The book is an absolute masterpiece, weaving together every exciting aspect of King's talent for masterful storytelling with some interesting takes on some old horror conventions. One aspect of the book which certainly isn't an old horror convention is the use of a clown in such a sinister method. While it was always known that clowns can be pretty disturbing, there were no reported instances of coulrophobia (fear of clowns) until after the book was released in 1986. That's right, folks...Stephen King sort of created a phobia.
All of that aside, the trailer is absolutely terrifying and has me very excited. The original miniseries adaptation was nothing to write home about from a film standpoint, but Tim Curry's portrayal of Pennywise the Dancing Clown was absolutely legendary and those clown shoes, already comically large, were going to be hard to fill.
Based on this trailer, it looks like Bill Skarsgard may actually pull it off. There was no dialogue from the clown in the trailer, however, so there is still plenty of opportunity for fuckery. Let's just hope that when "IT" hits theaters in September 2017, they literally rip a page from the Stephen King book and follow the novel closely.
