Tecmo Super Bowl vs NFL 2K5 Poll: Which is the Best Football Video Game Ever?

Tecmo Super Bowl vs NFL 2K5 Poll: Which is the Best Football Video Game Ever?

Let the debate begin! These two football games have set the bar for all others to try to reach, and by my estimation, no football games have come close yet (although Primetime '95 was a fucking blast).

Before you quickly land on some decision, consider the following information surrounding these two titans of the virtual gridiron:

Tecmo Super Bowl

This game has unquestionably changed the way that most of us look at football video games. It managed to take the 8-bits which the NES had to offer, and make for a game which was straight-up addicting. People still hold tournaments for this game, and some have even gone as far as to make updated versions which can be downloaded onto any computer. If you have an interest in trying this classic game with modern rosters, check out this link and be prepared to kiss your spare time goodbye

If this glowing review hasn't been enough to convince you, feast your eyes on some of this action from TSB 17 and tell me you're not ready to throw down with a few friends over a fresh case of beer.

NFL 2K5

So it is pretty hard to imagine that there is any football game which can even hold the proverbial jock of the cult phenomenon know as Tecmo Super Bowl, but if ever there was a game to challenge it for the crown, that game is NFL 2K5. This is the last NFL game of the 2K series, and they unquestionably saved the best for last. Between the advanced attention to details, the unbelievable presentation, and ability to access a plethora of classic NFL teams, this game took football gaming to the next level, and one can see why the people at EA panicked and decided to go ahead and buy exclusive rights to NFL video games. I found a pretty awesome independent documentary on the game which goes into detail much greater than I am able to offer, so give it a watch and decide for yourself.

So what do you think, gamers? Have you played either of these classic games? If not, have you formed any opinion based on the videos? Cast your vote in the poll below and let's settle this once and for all.
