Gotta Love That Baker Mayfield Flag Plant Against Ohio State Last Night
Not the biggest college football fan you may ever have come to know, but journalism knows no boundaries, and this whole thing is pretty juicy.
After Oklahoma defeated Ohio State quarterback, Baker Mayfield, whose name sounds lik he produced a Highwaymen album or is a hard-nosed cookie distributor, took the Boomer Sooner flag and planted it right in the middle of Ohio State's field to express that they are the superior "O" Team.
Folks are calling it “extremely disrespectful” others are saying it was a “spot on” reflection of OSU’s 2017 framework, I kind of flap on both sides of the flagpole. Sure, if I was a Buckeyes fan I’d be quite pissed, but maybe you shouldn’t be a number two overall-ranked team and have a household name coach to get that kind of shade thrown at you. Also, maybe don’t have a bunch of fans chant Ohio State in another big school’s stadiums. Or maybe, just maybe don’t do that sticker thing on your helmet, I don’t know, but when you’re a school as football aristocratic as Ohio State, you gonna get an opposing flag planted in the middle of your field a time or two.
Now looking at it from a more spectator side, the flag plant was a little awkward. First, an actual penetration of the field never occurred so the flag toppled over immediately when the exclamation point was made. Also, the OSU band was on the field - not the team. The band’s not going to start a donnybrook with a middle linebacker and come out with his head in a tuba. Would the flag plant have taken place if both squads were there?
Sounds we got a shiny new rivalry on our hands, and one man I know for sure is absolutely elated about last night’s results:
