Meet Jay McClement, Potential New Center For The Pittsburgh Penguins
"The Penguins signed 34-year-old Jay McClement to a professional tryout (PTO) in a deal announced Friday.
The Penguins have some interesting decisions to make when it comes to finding a third-line center, but what transpires from this opportunity for McClement will be determined throughout camp and the pre-season.
McClement became an unrestricted free agent earlier this summer after his two-year, $2.4 million deal with the Carolina Hurricanes came to an end.
He appeared in 65 games for the Hurricanes last season, scoring five goals and eight points. He also led all Carolina forwards in ice time on the penalty kill, averaging 1:51 per game in that situation."
Alright, cool. I'm for it. I never heard of Jay McClement until reading this and that's usually a good thing when it comes to Penguins making good signings. I totally never want to have heard of the guy (unless it's Jagr or "Slick" Shane Doan). Guys like Dumoulin and Schultz I couldn't have picked out of a line-up before they put on black and gold sweaters and hey, they're pretty darn good. Here are a few players I heard of before they signed with the Pens:
- Steve Sullivan
- David Perron
- Brandon Sutter
- Brendan Morrow
- Jarome Iginla
- Richard Park
- Miroslav "The Dark Lord" Satan
All those dudes are completely forgettable in Pittsburgh (and I love me some Iginla). I've already called Jay "Matt Clement" (Butler's finest) four times in my head so I sense very good things for this guy. He's only one vowel away from a very marketable "McClemente" nickname and also resembles player coach Reg Dunlop:
Dude's making the roster. Third line center here we come.
