Not A Hot Take: Mike Milbury Doesn't Like Pierre McGuire
Mike Milbury "not liking" Pierre McGuire is probably the most obvious take ever considering most hockey fans (including myself) don't even understand why Pierre McGuire has employment, and unlike Milbury we don't have work with the guy, but there is one small caveat: Mike Milbury is pretty much a dick through and through so he could be just doing his best 1993 Walter Matthau (resemblance uncanny), but damn is it great for NBC Sports. Pierre tries to make a point and Milbury either (1) disagrees with him, (2) downplays his observation or (3) completely doesn't acknowledge his voice at all (which he did at least once during last night's Pens/Caps game), all of which yield for high quality hockey television. Hell, for all we know Chris Nilan could be between those benches and Mils could also treat him like a child seeking attention from a wayward father, but it's a pretty clear sign that Milbury is not a McGuire man, made evident when he once called his turtle-waxed melon a "soccer mom"
Ohhh I love me such volatile curmudgeoness - it's only good for television and when it gets directed at an appropriate target like that nerd Pierre, you really can't ask for a better combination. Doc Emrick is going to have to quell those rising waters of tension from time to time, but you gotta think he's in Milbury's camp too, but he probably just wants Eddie Olczyk back (get well, Eddie). Either way, I want more.
