Newest Pirate Nik Turley Has The Fullest Patchy Beard I've Ever Seen
The Pirates have claimed 28-year-old left-handed pitcher Nik Turley off waivers from the Twins.
In his first stint in Major League Baseball, Turley struck out 13 and walked eight in 17 2-3 innings with the Twins, posting an 11.21 ERA. He made three starts and 10 total appearances in the majors.
Turley posted a 12.1 K/9 and a 2.8 BB/9 for Minnesota’s Double- and Triple-A teams, mostly as a starter, last season.
He would seem to be potential relief depth for the Pirates, who finished the 2017 season with Wade LeBlanc, Dan Runzler and occasionally swingman Steven Brault as left-handers in the bullpen, in addition to Felipe Rivero, who was eventually glued to the closer role.
Oh, what's that? Too soon for baseball news is it?
I know what you're thinking, the big news is that the Bucs' exercise's Cutch's option and rightfully so, that should be talked about. Also sayonara Chris Stewart and Wade LeBlanc, maybe that's something to mention, but then Huntington had to go and sign the biggest patchy beard majesty in all of the land:
Hot damn. Now I've seen some patchy beards in my day (living in central Pennsylvania will do that), but never one that was so rich in depth and volume. There's something to be said for this look if you can pull it off simply because of it's scarcity if nothing else.
This could possibly be the reason that Turley's been on so many minor league squads. The beard is like the extra incentive to go to a minor league game like they do with pop culture themed jersey nights:
Certainly, Turley's scruff is not on the level of Al Borland, but that beard of his looks like he's done some wood working a time or two.
